About the Author:
Dr.Tsering Dorjee Dekhang graduated from TCV school in Dharamsala and later joined MenTseeKhang to study Tibetan Medicine. He earned the Kachupa Degree (BTMS) in Tibetan Medicine and later worked at the Hunsur Branch Clinic before returning in 1994 for practical training at Men-Tsee Khang’s pharmaceutical department. Since 1995 he has worked in the research wing of the . After intensive post-graduate study he was awarded the Menrampa Degree (MD) with distinction in 2004. He is currently the Deputy Director of the Materia Medica Department of Men-Tsee-Khang.
Dr.Dorjee has represented Men-Tsee-Khang at various seminars and medical camps. He also served as the English interpreter for Dr.Tenzin Choedak and Dr. Lobsang Wangyal, who were both personal physicians to H.H. the Dalai Lama. Dr. Dorjee visited Austria, England, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and U.S.A. for medical consultations and lectures. He co-authored the book Tibetan Medicinal Plants (published in Germany by Medpharm Scientific Publisher, 2001). In addition to assisting with the translation of several books into English and Tibetan he guided many international students and doctors in their study of Tibetan medicine.
This current work on Tibetan medicinal plants stems from Dr. Dorjee’s extensive field experience with the plants of the Himalayan foothills. Currently he is on the editorial board of sMan-rtsis English Journal (Journal of Tibetan Medicine & Astro. Science) and committee that organizes Tibetan medicine courses for international scholars.
