PASSING OF DR. LHAWANG

We regret to inform of the sad demise of Dr. Lhawang-la, who left us for the heavenly abode on September 17, 2008, after prolong illness. The demise of such an eminent and outstanding physician is a great misfortune and loss to Men-Tsee-Khang and the community as a whole. Our sympathy is with the bereaved family and the relatives. The Men-Tsee-Khang students and staff gathered together to pray for the departed soul and for his speedy rebirth.

Dr. Lhawang was born in 1932 in Lhasa, Tibet. He had been serving in the institute since its inception in the year 1961. He was first enrolled as a student to the Institute with recommendation from the Council of Religious Affairs now known as “Religion and Culture Department” and simultaneously working for the `dispensary’ in formulating and compounding medicines dire needed for the new comers who dared crossing high mountain passes into exile.

From 1971 to 1993, he served as the residential doctor in the various Tibetan Settlements in India such as Kalimpong, Mundgod, Bylakuppe, Kollegal including Nepal.  Since 1994, he had been serving as the Director of the Herbal Product Research Department in Dharamsala.
