Lecture, consultation tour to Japan

Thursday, September 07, 2006: A two-member team of Men-Tsee-Khang: Mr. Dorjee Wangyal, Director of Astrological Department and Dr. Penpa Tsering, researcher of the Sorig Literary Research Department, visited Tokyo, Japan, on medical & astrological lectures & consultations from 9 – 23 August. The visit was organised by the Liaison Office of H.H. the Dalai Lama, Tokyo, in association with the Men-Tsee-Khang.

The two-member team gave medical and astrological lectures to 50 and 20 people on 12 and 19 August respectively. During their seven days medical and astrological consultation camp, the doctor gave medical consultations to 45 patients whereas, astrologer gave astrological consultations to 54 people. They reported to have spent more than half an hour per consultation. In addition, the team also made available information brochures and Newsletter to interested people in creating awareness on Men-Tsee-Khang. They reported that the tour had helped the people of Japan in knowing more on the ancient traditional science of Tibetan medicine and astrology. Since Japan has their own traditional astrological system, the Japanese were showing particular keeness in understanding more on the Tibetan astrological system. Dispite less turnout for medical consultation, the doctor said the people in general exhibited high level of eagerness in learning Tibetan medicine.

Going by the level of interest and enthusiasm shown by the visiting people, the team believe, it will be a wise decision to organise such tour in the future that will help largely in imparting the knowledge of Tibetan healing science and astrology to the people of Japan.
