Men-Tsee-Khang inaugurates Solar dryer
Thursday, October 26, 2006: Men-Tsee-Khang administration yesterday inaugurated a Solar dryer at the Pharmaceutical Department. The inauguration was done by the Director Dr. Dawa la in presence of Deputy Director Dr. Namgyal Tsering; the Director of the Pharmaceutical Department, Dr. Ngawang Khyentse and workers concerned.
Prior to the inaugural function, the technician took everyone for a round trip and described the functions of the Solar dryer. This machinery installation followed soon after successful installation of cold storage units in July this year. With this system in use Men-Tsee-Khang envisions the safer production of medicinal pills especially during the long rainy season in Dharamsala. This system will speed up the drying process and eventually leave no chance for fungal and moisture growths in the medicines. The product is made by TATA-BP having reputation of producing very high quality products that meet the GMP guidelines. Moreover, its running cost is very low with total hygienic methods.
It is reported that the hot air generated by the solar energy will range from 35 to 40 degree Celsius, which is equivalent to actual sunlight without ultraviolet rays. The outstanding thing is that the solar dryer works even on low daylight and if required can be run on backup as well.
It is also proposed that Men-Tsee-Khang will work on moisture standardization of medicines so that temperatures can be set according to the requirement of individual medicines.
