Legal Status
Men-Tsee-Khang is a charitable, cultural and educational institution of H.H. the Dalai Lama, registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 (No. 1290/79).
It has exemption u.s. 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961 (No.CIT/SML/2003-04/2286-18/7/03).  It is registered u.s. 12-A (a) of the Indian Income Tax Act 1961 (No. Judl/Reg. Cr/81-82/I5-T/35667/2/3). 
Its permanent Account Number for Income Tax is AAATM1890L. Its income tax number is 010213, Palampur (30/03/91).

Charitable Education
As part of its charity work, Men-Tsee-Khang has provided free education for its medical and astrological students since its inception in 1961 till 2007 from which 14 batch of medicine and 8 batch of astrology students have completed their course.  The institute has successfully nurtured 290 students among whom 243  are graduate doctors and 47 astrologers.   The governing body of Men-Tsee-Khang regulated the policy of the education and since 2007 the students have to pay a minimal fee including college and boarding. The institute provides free education for five topper students who are under the poor and destitute category.        

Charitable Health Care
Men-Tsee-Khang provides free medicine to Tibetans over the age of 65, to new Tibetan refugees for the first six months and to poor or destitute Tibetans (the respective Settlement/Welfare Officer in the refugee settlement determines whether a tibetan is poor or destitute).  Concessional i.e subsidised health care is also provided to monks & nuns irrespective of caste and creed; college and school students (Tibetans)which are managed under CTA and TCV administration.

Free health treatment is offered to patients suffering from AIDS to improve the quality of life. Subsidised health care is given to patients suffering from Hepatitis B and Tuberclosis in order to reduce the side effects and improve the general condition.  The health care facilities are given generally to Tibetan community. The pills and the line of treatment are researched specially for the above disorders which are effective for liver and bile disorders and strengthening the immune system.
